She also works on new build projects employing traditional materials and techniques. The practice is based in Cambridge, England and whilst work has been undertaken overseas, it is generally concentrated locally.

Oriel studied at Cambridge University and at the Architectural Association. She has taught at the Royal College of Art and also at both Cambridge and East London Universities. She was awarded a PhD studentship from the AHRC in 2006. Oriel presented a paper at the Towards Zero Energy Building international PLEA conference in Dublin in October 2008.
